Remembering Max

Rest in peace Max

10/2005 - 1/22/2022

Max passed over yesterday evening. His quality of life plummeted drastically in a few short hours yesterday afternoon. He had been becoming more and more fragile, having short episodes of his backend giving out, but bouncing back. He was unable to bounce back yesterday; instead the episode kept getting worse.

He passed over with the help of the staff at Pet Emergency Center in Missoula. I am grateful for their help and compassionate care.

I am also grateful to the excellent and loving care he received from Grant Creek Veterinary Services, Dr. Johnson and the staff.

I was with him the entire time and can honestly say he was ready to go. It was one of the most peaceful passings I've ever witnessed.

This poem was written by Max's friend, Tracie Nichols, inspired by the moon. For all of us who have ever lost animal friends.

Each night the moon tugs

and tenderly, steadily, starfish

span by starfish span, relocates

vast shining sea homes. And some

nights - - some unfathomably special

nights - - she tugs and loves and

wilth infinite kindness she shings

a sweet shining soul home.

Good night Max

Below are some of my favorite pics of Max, ending with his final pic.

Be at play Buddy, I love you to the moon and back one thousand times over
