I’m Just Too Damned Tired To Care

Originally published June 21, 2013

Recently I read a post about animals and the author’s relationship with those animals, which she openly admitted she did not want around her.

The post was well researched and written, used all kinds of stunning metaphors, vivid adjectives and well turned sentences. Obviously a professional writer, not just another blogger.

SEO was terrific. Strategic keywords were used, calculated to bring not only visitors, but the right kind of visitors to the site. Just the right amount of flippancy was thrown in for chuckles. Graphics were well chosen, backing up the content beautifully. The pacing of the post was well controlled with the judicious use of sentence lengths and buzz words sprinkled throughout the post.

Maybe it was the projection of the author’s own fear upon the animals, anthropomorphising the animals into creatures decidedly less-than sentient beings; maybe I had fallen prey to the either/or, good/bad dichotomy the author had either consciously or unconsciously set up. Heck, maybe I was just hot, tired and thirsty.

All I know is I wanted to leave a comment that started off “I FIND YOUR CONCLUSIONS DIVISIVE…..”, COMPLETE WITH CAPS SO THE AUTHOR WOULD HAVE *NO DOUBT* I WAS YELLING AND THAT I WAS RIGHT AND SHE WAS WRONG.

And then I realized…..

I am just too damned tired to care.

I am just too damned tired to waste my energy on a verbal sparring battle where the only foreseeable result would be to waste more of my energy in a mind game that would probably be no more than word play for the author. No animals would be helped either physically, virtually or energetically. Should I engage the author through a comment, I could see my energy being swallowed into a vortex , a black hole of  tongue-in-cheek repartee.

I choose not to put my energy into what is, IMO, the equivalent of a reality show, which of course does not reflect reality at all.

I care too much about the animals and our relationship with the animals to waste my energy on something that distracts me from my values and commitments. I want to spend my energy in advocating for the animals and helping people deepen your relationship with the animals.

Lately I have been immersing myself in the animal/human bond, wondering how changes that need to be made will be made. (Note: Here it is January 2024 and I’m still exploring that!)

Here’s What Animals Say

It is time for you humans to become fully conscious of your thoughts, words and deeds. We know that many of you believe you are fully conscious, but are you really? How many times have you swatted at an insect and killed it, just so you wouldn’t be bothered by it? How many times have you ignored a dog’s bark, a cat’s meow? How many times have you set traps or set out poisons to ‘eliminate pests’?

As you become more and more conscious of your thoughts, words and deeds, you will realize they have far reaching consequences, more than you could ever anticipate. And many have consequences you don’t even desire.

We ask that you humans join us in the animal kingdom, not be separate from us. It is only when you take those steps in unity with us and all sentient creatures that life will change for all of us.

Consider us as fellow beings on this planet, taking our journeys together. We are not just a snake, just a rabbit, just another dumb animal. We are teachers and leaders, just as you humans are when you are at your best.

It is through your consciousness and commitment to well being for all that Life will change.

What the animals are asking of each one of us is to be in the present, to honor who we are as a species and live up to the best the human species offers.

After all, We All Do Better When ALL Creatures Do Better.

Change begins with each one of us, not the other sentient being. My change begins with me, your change begins with you. I have energy to spare when it comes to doing what the animals are asking of each of us. And believe me, I do give a damn when it comes to making the world a better place for all sentient beings.
