Music Modifies Taste of Wine?
With the holidays approaching, many of us will be enjoying wine with our meal. But have you considered how the choice of music can alter the taste of the wine?
NPR hosted a segment with vintner Clark Smith, co-founder of the California R.H. Phillips Vineyard. Smith proposes that the taste of wine is dramatically impacted by the music being played. As music has different moods, so does wine. Smith compares wine to a musical instrument: “If it’s playing in the wrong thematic mode, it clashes with the rest of the musicians.” Try these combinations and see for yourself what happens!
• Cabernet tastes best with dark, angry music and clashes with Mozart.
• Pinot Noir tastes best with romantic music and clashes with polkas.
• White Zinfandel tastes best with polka or polka-like blues and clashes with angry music.
